Newsletter 1/6/2023
From the Principal:
Children who eat breakfast are more likely to attend school, be better behaved and have positive interactions with fellow students and teachers. Skipping breakfast adversely affects a child's ability to concentrate at school, their social behaviour and physical development.
Our Breakfast Program has been running for two years now. We have provided over 14 000 breakfasts and we know that many children look forward to the days when breakfast club is on. Disappointment is very evident some days when children find out it is not a breakfast club morning.
On average we provide 60 serves of breakfast each Breakfast Club morning. We go through at least 8 loaves (180 slices) of bread and 12 litres of milk a week. We know that research has shown that students who eat a nutritious breakfast perform better academically. A Breakfast Club ensures that students start their day with a healthy meal, providing them with the energy and nutrients needed for concentration, memory, and cognitive function. By providing breakfast we help students engage with their learning from the very start of the school day and to stay alert and engaged throughout the day.
Food preparation by our Education Assistant Mrs Streich and Chaplain Mrs Durack begins at 8 am ready for when the school gates are opened at 8:30am. Our Mercy Crew volunteers play a crucial role in assisting with serving, cleaning up and interacting with all students. These volunteers create a supportive and caring atmosphere for all our students.
Donations are essential for the sustainability of our Breakfast Club. They come in the form of monetary contributions, food items, vouchers, or other necessary resources. Donations help cover the costs associated with providing this free service in our school. We acknowledge the support of one of our local businesses, Ashgrove with their constant supply of milk, cheese and butter since our program's inception. Parents have been generous and donations are greatly appreciated - these often create greater variety in what we offer our hungry children.

Emergency Practice:
Emergency Practice
Within the next few weeks we will hold an unannounced emergency
practice with staff and students, to test our response to a potential
scenario where staff may identify a threat which would warrant the
school to go into lockdown (opposite to evacuation).
Like for fire evacuation drills, we recognise the worth to test this
process.
We have plans in place to make this practice as least disruptive as
possible.
If you have queries please call our Safety Officer, Katie Gardner on 0456849497

St Brendan-Shaw College Production:
"Rehearsals are well underway for the College production of Pippin. Students have been working hard on dancing and singing, and things look positive. We have some talented students in the lead roles and supporting players with great vocal talent. The choreography as well is led by some very well-tuned dance students. The sets are being created by a fantastic artistic team and constructed by Bevan Scramm and his crew.
Pippin tells the story of a young man, fresh from his studies at University, determined to live a fulfilling life and do the extraordinary. As he moves through his life, he realises that the promise of an exciting life isn't all it is cracked up to be. With some fabulous choreography and singing, Pippin will be a show you will never forget.
