    From The Acting Principal:

    Dear Families

Welcome back! I hope everyone has had a restful break and found some time for renewal as we prepare for another term together. I'm thrilled to be back in this wonderful school community and am very much looking forward to connecting or reconnecting with you all, as we strive to provide the best possible opportunities for your children to flourish and thrive.

During the month of May, the Church pays particular honour to Mary, the mother of Jesus. It is no coincidence that Mother’s Day is held in May. On this particular day we remember and celebrate those who do or have, played a maternal role in our lives. This may be our own mothers or other significant females who have shaped or influenced us.

To all those amazing women, we hope you have a lovely day on Sunday, and feel the love!

After many years of dedicated service, Michelle Durack will be leaving us to pursue other professional opportunities. Michelle’s last day with us will be Thursday 16 May. We will be sad to see Michelle leave us, as she has given so much to our school community for so many years, both as an Education Assistant and as our Wellbeing Officer. In moments of need or crisis, Michelle has been a voice of calm, care and concern for staff, our students and their families. We hope this new chapter for her is professionally and personally rewarding.

Thought for the week: “It is only your life that grows old, not you, nor your spirit”.

    Kind regards,

    Paul Mannion

    Launceston Competitions:

Well, what a fantastic day we had at the annual Launceston Competitions held at the Princess Theatre! All our wonderful Prep - Grade 6 classes participated and built up the courage to get up on the big stage, under lights and in front of a large audience to share their poems.

The students presented themselves beautifully in full school uniform and their behaviour was exemplary, which made us all very proud. A special well done to our Grade 3/4 class who were awarded 1st PLACE and our Grade 5/6 and Prep and class who were acknowledged with Highly Commended. A special thank you to all the parents who attended and our staff, particularly the amazing Mrs Jacquie Wood for her tireless work to prepare our students so well. We may be a small school, but we have big voices!

    Well done everyone.

    Kinder Classroom:

Kinder students have shown an interest in different mathematic concepts this term
including measurement and geometry. To extend on this learning, we provided a toy
scale for the children to explore. After being shown how to use the scale, we
challenged everyone to balance the scale by putting the same weight on each side.
They then explained what was happening on the scale by using words such as,
‘bigger’, ‘smaller’, ‘light’, ‘heavy’ and ‘equal’. This was an experienced enjoyed by all.

National Walk Safely to School Day:

Friday 10th May is National Walk Safely to School Day. Now in its 25th year, National Walk Safely to School Day is an annual event where children are encouraged to walk and commute safely to school. It is a community event seeking to promote road safety, health, public transport and the environment. Our Lady of Mercy staff are inviting students to join us, as part of this day.

We will to meet on the lawn beside the Deloraine library on Friday at 8:10 am. As a group, we will walk along Emu Bay Road, turn left, walk along Parsonage St until we turn onto West Goderich St and arrive at school. Estimated time of arrival will be approximately 8:30 am.

This is a great opportunity to show the wider community of Deloraine that the students at Our Lady of Mercy can make safe choices as pedestrians.

We encourage all students who are able to join us to do so. Parents, please feel free to join our walk.

We look forward to seeing students on Friday.

    Holy Trinity Westbury 150th Anniversary:

    St Patrick's College Production.

    PSST State Athletics Carnival:

We would like to congratulate Lenny Hall and Evie-Meg Neal who will be representing OLOM at the State Primary School Athletics Carnival on Friday 10th May. Best of luck!
